Our friend, and roommate for the weekend, Koko Tanaka, won third place in the Terrier Breed competition with Tilly the Dandie Dinmont Terrier. Koko also won second place with Levi, my Miniature Poodle, and also placed with Coco her Mixed breed entry. We had a great time and really enjoyed sharing a room and good fellowship with Koko.

This is Moab. Well, at least that's what we are calling him today! He is my husband's new Golden Retreiver puppy and he is six weeks old. We have been trying to choose a name for him that reminds us of some of the red rock terrain the we have enjoyed some much while vacationing out west, especially in and around Moab, Utah. Other names we have been considering are Mojave, Mesa, and Lakota.

Stylists take Awards at Largest Competition on Earth!

The pet styling staff at Slocum Ridge recently attended the Atlanta Pet Fair. This year the Atlanta Pet Fair was the largest pet grooming show on earth! Stylists, Debbie Slocum, Brandi Gamblin and Tracy Schumann were all entered in the competition. They, along with stylists Amanda Gargus and Bethany Gilbert attended seminars and completed phases of their continuing education, passing written tests and evaluations of thier practical pet styling skills, administered by the National Dog Groomers Association and International Pet Groomers.

The stylists at Slocum Ridge have competed at the Atlanta Pet Fair each year since 2003. They have brought home awards each year. The competition is fierce. The best pet stylist from all over the country come to gether and go head to head with each other. Stylists are divied into three skill levels, based upon their wins in previous competitions. The levels are Entry, Intermediate and Open. 2009 was the second, consecutive year that Slocum Ridge has had stylists competing in all three skill levels of the competition.

Brandi, competing in the Intermediate Level, took 1st Place in the Small Non-Sporting Class with Tommy, a Bichon Frise, and another 1st Place with Kipper, a Poodle/Bichon mix in the Potpouri class. Brandi and Kipper won 1st place in the same class in 2008 as well.

Tracy competing in the Entry Level, placed 3rd in the Sporting Class with Champ, a Golden Retriever.

The stylists at Slocum Ridge attend multiple pet styling shows as well as AKC dog shows each year, in their effort to keep their grooming skills refined to the highest level.
